We’ve Missed You Quite Terribly
We’ve Missed You Quite Terribly
COVID-19 has taken a toll on nearly every small business worldwide. Unfortunately, Apothecari Bioscience (ABS) was no exception. To say that “the Rona” rocked our world is an understatement.
Picture this, December of 2019; we had just settled into our new warehouse. ABS had just been approved for our manufacturing license, as well as our industrial hemp growing license. We had finally settled into our retail store and offices. We had just begun construction on our warehouse facility and shipping containers (6 of them). We were about three weeks away from launching our new strongman gym, and we had set up our training classroom and yoga studio. To say that we had big plans well underway for our wellness company may be a bit of an understatement.
By April 2020 we were having to shut down our warehouse and retail store completely. Our gym had been closed and our equipment had been sold. All our employees had been laid off. The only team members that were left to try to keep things going were the original four founders: Morgan, Andy, Adrien and Devin. And not only were we charged with keeping things going without pay but we also had to find other sources of income to help cover the bills, our livelihoods and fund the business.
Like most parents I also had to transition from being a full-time working mom to a stay-at-home mom, for the first time in my children’s life. On top of that, it put a lot of pressure on my husband to solely carry the financial burden to provide for our wonderful family of five. Staying home ended up being such a blessing for me because it allowed me to be here when my children’s schools were closed, and it allowed me to gain back some of the time with them I had lost to my management careers. Wearing the title of SAHM instead of BOSS MOM, was a much-needed change in my life, but it certainly took a toll on my mental health and self- esteem.
Closing down Apothecari Bioscience for a year to strategize and restructure was one of the saddest, hardest, things I have had to experience as a business owner. I literally felt like I had let my family down, my literal family, as well as all the stray members we had adopted along the way through our company. It was at this point that we had made the decision, as owners, to start over. More importantly, we chose to take a break for our own mental health. We took this time to regroup and hopefully reopen again later. The truth of the matter is, I do not know if we were ever sure whether we would get to a point where we felt like we could re-launch. But alas, here we are!
This is a story that is now all too familiar to too many Americans right now. First and foremost, please know that our prayers are with you and yours at this uncertain time. Whether you are a struggling small business or a first responder who has been charged with cleaning up this mess. Our hearts ache for you all.
Secondly, we want to apologize for going M.I.A. to many of our customers. We had not been prepared for the challenges that 2020 threw at us and it became ever more apparent in the way we ran our company (or lack of ability to run our company). We tried to take care of the customers we could, but quite frankly our heads were not in it to win and between dealing with each of our own individual trials, we let a lot of customers down. Please know you were not forgotten. Please know how sorry we are that we were not able to keep things alive and well during this break.
Lastly, not all things that came out of COVID have been bad. COVID gave us time. Time with our kids that so many of us desperately needed. Time to discover new passions and hobbies. Time to organize our homes. Time to prioritize and self-reflect. And now, after almost a year of relaxing, adjusting, healing and planning, … we have been given the time for Apothercari Bioscience to proudly announce that we are ready to re-launch.
We are here for you. That is right! We are back and ready to serve and help our customers. We have been able to rebuild our website and our process to create a better experience for you guys. We are excited to work with each one of you again. We have missed you quite terribly!
Stay safe! Stay healthy!
